Green Approach for Electropolishing Surface Treatments of Additive Manufactured Parts: A Comprehensive Review

Over the years, widespread diffusion of additive manufacturing, especially to produce metal objects, and awareness their poor surface quality due presence a significant roughness, have highlighted need develop suitable post-processing treatments. In this regard, electropolishing techniques are ideal high versatility, even on geometrically complex or small-sized which difficult treat with that require physical contact tool. On other hand, common use strong dangerous acid baths does not allow compliance increasingly stringent sustainability criteria. For reason, special attention is directed toward identification green electrolytes, based deep eutectic acid-free solvents, potentially capable replacing conventional solutions. The choice new environmentally sustainable specifically appropriate solvents according alloys treated could further expansion processing technologies, therefore preserve advantage, extending, among things, demand for related finished products thanks superior aesthetic functional quality.
